While participating in a literary magazine in my youth, I happened upon a poem, and the final line of that poem stuck with me:
“Mankind lives – desperate in an effort to be.”
Even at the time, it made me realize that we’re all in a process to discover and express our truest identity – a process that I would explore first hand, as I first became a writer and reporter for a news station, then a DJ, then a program director, then VP of marketing for a large Los Angeles area retailer, then an enterprise management consultant, then a sales VP for a graphics company, general manager of a record label, non-profit management consultant, founder of two non-profits, then a nonprofit executive, and finally – a leadership coach.
Everyone who is on a growth path will come face to face with their own life and leadership. Without personal and work vision – vision that comes from your unique point of view, and welcomes and inspires others to follow, you will reach a cul-de-sac in your growth.
My job as a coach is to help leaders deal with accelerated perpetual change, renew and refocus their vision, and learn how to inspire others to follow – all while they’re moving forward.
